“There is an undercurrent, the real life, beneath all appearances everywhere. “

“The Art Spirit”
My initial attraction when selecting a painting subject is always to the people of any particular place I am visiting. I am interested in the unique character of a culture as evidenced and expressed by the daily routines of everyday life. In my figurative work, I try to communicate my impression of that character by capturing a fleeting gesture or attitude or simply a moment in time.
I am also drawn to the natural beauty of our environment as are most artists. In the past year, I have made a concerted effort to paint most, if not all, of my landscapes "en plein air". I believe that painting outside, in one session, produces the most honest and compelling interpretations possible in landscape painting.
